Hello all! I was wondering if anyone had memories of my dad (Richard Stanley Vance) that they would be willing to share! I was to young to really remember my dad! I remember riding in his semi one time from my house to to Uncle Bus Summers house! The only other thing I remember about my dad is him smelling of tobacco!!!! The last one may sound awful, but I can still remember the way he smelled!
I really enjoy reading this blog! It helps me to learn a little about everyone! Thanks again for accepting me and my family into yours!
Family Forever,
Samantha

Samantha, We are all so thrilled to find you and your sisters. Richard was a special person to us. When Grandpa Vance died, he went to Io Iowa to live with Alta and Tiny. They were is family then and we didn't see a lot of him, but we did know him and felt a strong family bond with him. He came to Colorado many times through the years as we were raising our children. Norene and Sheila were like sisters to him. We have lost track of both of them. They came to a reunion at our cabin one year and I think we have some pictures of them and their families. Richard and your mom came to the cabin to one of the reunions we had with the Vances. They were not there long enough to get very well acquainted with your mom and I don't remember too much about the things that happened at the time. I will put a group of family histories together when I can get the time to do it. I'm so glad that you are in our family. Uncle Earl and Aunt Winabelle's family live in Texas. They are wonderful people. Tell us more about your family. Do you know what happened to Norene and Sheila? Aunt Gatha
When Grandpa Vance died, Grandma Vance was in the beginning stages of Alzhimers. and wasn't able to take care of Richard. Grandma Vance was a sweet lady and I loved her a lot, but that disease is very difficult for the people who have it and their families.
I remember when he would come see us in Colorado he would park his truck up on the highway and walk down the lane to visit for a while. He would drive his truck to Raedeen's. It was easier to get it around. He liked visiting at Raedeen's. He was a nice pleasant man, tall, and thin. He also had the smokin habit like most of the Vances that I remember. Very pleasant and willing to help the family. It is good to be related to this family.
For many years, Norene Waters and Sheila lived in Denver. I spoke with Sheila last summer when Gerald was visiting. We talked about getting together, but we never got it done.
I know that this doesn't have much to do with the topic of Dad, Richard...but do any of the Vances' ever have reunions anymore? Just wondering...Barbara (Vance) Deardorff
It has been a long time since there has been a reunion. I don't think there has been a reunion with all of the older family for many years. I think it would be a wonderful idea to have one. It would be so nice to see all of you and know you personally. Aunt Gatha
