I suppose the reason I like it is because I can relate to it at least at a certain level.
My child arrived just the other day
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew
He'd say "I'm gonna be like you dad
You know I'm gonna be like you"
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home dad?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then
My son turned ten just the other day
He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today
I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok"
And he walked away but his smile never dimmed
And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him"
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then
Well, he came home from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say
"Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head and said with a smile
"What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys
See you later, can I have them please?"
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then
I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind"
He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time
You see my new job's a hassle and kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talking to you, Dad
It's been sure nice talking to you"
And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then
I would like to hope that my children choose my better traits. I feel that I am a compassionate helpful person. I saw that my father was like that. He would not anybody to tell him that. He did things for others that were in need with no intent of ever being compensated. He looked after the widows of Manassa and made sure they had what they needed. My father also had no reservations in stating to me when he thought someone was not honest or trustworthy, but he would not show it outwardly what he thought.

This has been one of my favorite songs too. I am afraid that I was a lot like the man in the song. If I could go back in time, I would spend a lot more time playing and having fun with my family than I did when they were home.
I remember, too that our Dad was a man that was kind to the widows at home. I enjoyed the two years that I had to work with him after Donnie went on his mission.
Dad had a gruff side, but he tried hard to provide well for us.
For some reason, I never heard that song, but it is surely true that time does get away and after the days pass we would all like to go back and change some things. I wish I had spent more time with each of you. You are my reason for joy.
Just a little time before Dad passed on we had a small chat in the back of th old garage. That is the most special time I ever had with Dad. He was allways my hero but I didn`t know it.
While we were back ther, just tthe two of us. we said son I love you and that has burned my candle ever sence. I just wished I would have smelled a few more roses then think I had better things to do. Hind sight is prettyt good. I want everyone of you all to know that I DEARLY LOVE YOUNS.
Usuns love you too, big brother.
Maybe I should take all my kids out back of the garage and have a get to know me session.
